Why Short Drama System Quotes Can Differ by Several Times — What Actually Differs, Check Before Comparing

Two projects both called "a short-drama system" can have quotes differing several times. This article names no vendor but explains where quote gaps usually come from — functional coverage, platform count, payment and membership, source-code delivery, design and content, long-term maintenance, team and quote basis — so you can align scope before comparing.

A quote differing several times isn’t necessarily one vendor “expensive” or “cheap” — more often, everyone is quoting a different thing. Before comparing, align the scope first.

1. Functional scope differs a lot

“Playable” and “operable” are two different systems:

Some quotes include only basic playback, some include the complete operations loop. Comparing total price directly is meaningless.

2. Number of platforms

Building one WeChat mini program versus WeChat + Douyin + TikTok + standalone app — very different effort. If the other side quotes only one platform while you assume all are included, adding platforms later is extra cost.

3. Whether payment and membership are included

Per-episode payment, membership subscription, recurring billing require integrating each platform’s capabilities — high effort and compliance requirements. Some quotes include payment integration, some charge separately.

4. Whether source-code delivery

Source-code delivery and “we host and run it for you” have different cost structures. Source-code delivery usually has higher one-time investment but long-term autonomy; hosted has low upfront but later constraints. The two can’t be simply compared by unit price.

5. Whether design and content are included

UI design, content operations, asset processing — some teams include, some don’t. This part also widens the total gap.

6. Whether long-term maintenance is included

Launch isn’t the end. Bug fixes, feature iteration, follow-up after platform rule changes — whether included in the quote varies greatly. A low price without maintenance may be recovered later in another way.

7. Team and quote basis

The quote method also affects the number: by feature list, by man-day, by milestone — different bases, the same system computes different numbers. Not to mention team location and experience efficiency differences.

What a low price may have saved

Not all low prices are problematic, but watch for:

These “invisible” parts often decide whether the system can run long-term.

How to compare reasonably

Before comparing, make an alignment table:

Scope consistent, then compare total price — only then are the numbers comparable.
